July 4 Weekend

We had a relaxing 3-day weekend. We reenacted American Revolution battles (we didn't). Friday we went downtown to celebrate the 4th. We were so early, there weren't a lot of people there. But Mason had a great time. He danced to the live music, drew on the sidewalk with chalk, walked around, and shared ice cream ("ah-me") with us.

Flip!

Saturday Mason and I went to the farmer's market (of course!). The rest of the day was quiet and rest-y. We spent time in the yard. Will and I drank a bottle of prosecco with sweet lemonade. Yum.
Hi!
Where's Mason?

Sunday we did more yard hanging, and went shopping. No pictures.

Wake Up Sweetness

When Mason wakes up in the morning and after his naps, he takes his pa (pacifier), lovey and Elmo out of the crib with him. He needs the prolonged comfort. When he's finished with them, we bring them all into his room and fling one at a time into his crib for the next sleeping encounter. Great fun!

Ouchie

Mason fell on the front steps on Sunday. Hit hit above and below his eye on the stone step. He was reaching for the doorbell. It was one of those slow motion things you watch and are paralyzed from reacting to until it's too late because you're in slow-mo, as well. He was a champ about letting me ice it. I'm sure that helped it not be too bad. (Picture from yesterday morning. It got a little more purple as the day went on.) Whew...

Tattle Tale

This morning we brought Mason into our bed after he woke up. (As we do most mornings.) Will took his pacifier away (in a nice way), and Mason let me know. "Mama, Mama!" I asked what was wrong, and he said, "Lala!" (daddy). He was tattling on Will! He needed my help rescuing his pa from Lala!

The communication is becoming more complex each day!

Gallop!

Mason figured out how to gallop today at the Little Gym! His version of "gallop" is way more fun than your standard variety.

Sometimes when Mason walks, walks fast, (now) gallops, I'm reminded of the way Phoebe jogged on Friends. I don't have much love for that show in general, but that episode was so funny. Phoebe just wanted to have fun and feel like a kid, so she jogged with her limbs flying everywhere. Rachel was embarrassed to jog with her until she saw how much fun it was to jog Phoebe's way.

22 Months Old!

Mommy, Enough Bath PicturesMason's 22nd month was a fun one! I cannot believe he will be 2 years old in 2 months! Time flies when the times are fun.

A lot has developed in Casa Mason this month. Let's start with the talking. We still only have one-word sentences. But he is enunciating words here and there. He says "Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii!" clear as a bell and to everyone. He calls me mama instead of baba. Over the course of a couple of weeks, he was calling me both, and then I magically became mama. When Will becomes dada instead of lala, even more of little baby Mason will be gone. Sad and happy and exciting! One other word he says very clearly now is juice.

With Grandma and Grandpa When I tell him we're going to Target, Starbucks or the Farmer's Market, he "tuts" his tongue. That means cake. He KNOWS that we are going to get him cake! We don't do those things very often, but he still remembers!

Preferences surfaced big time this month. He now asks for different songs in the car besides the "no no" song ("Don't Lie" by the Black Eyed Peas). He can identify four or five Sesame Street songs and asks for them (Grover, Manamana, LaLaLa - "Sing, Sing a Song"). He requests specific pajamas (mickey) or a tshirt (dinosaur or pirate).

Grandpa, Mas and Grandma in the Library's GazeboHe's gotten more physical this month. He can throw, kick and roll a ball like a champ! He has a new baseball tee and can set it up and hit himself. He still isn't technically running, but he moves quickly on those little legs! He loves to jump (we help), hang from the bar, walk on the beam, and do forward rolls at The Little Gym.

He got a haircut! It is a really bad haircut. We buzzed it ourselves, and stopped when we thought he couldn't take it any longer. It's growing in badly, but he's so cute anyway! It makes him look like a big boy (with a blind stylist!).

He had visits with all grandparents this month. It is fun to spend time with our parents. They get such a kick out of Mason.

"Dah!" (Rocks)He has four squirting dogs and one fish in the bath. He named the dogs Pippy (Basher's nickname from me and Will), Pippy, Mama and Lala. He named the fish "Bobo" (Grover).

He will negotiate now. He knows that if he wants to go outside, he has to wear shoes (I don't want him getting a bee sting on his foot!). If we want him to eat a little more, we offer to sing a song, and he'll eat more while we sing. Crayons work, too.

Speaking of crayons, he's drawing more and more. I tried fingerpaints with him this month. I was glad I had a paper towel next to me. He HATED it! So I got a turkey brush and he made his first painting instead!

He gives the most delicious "Elmo" kisses and neck squeezes now!

Big Boy!He's been working on holding up fingers for each number one through five. He can identify so many letters now and their sounds because of the fridgephonics (V, P, D, Y, M, N, O, A...)

His sleep is pretty regular. He has a 2.5ish hour nap daily and goes to sleep (pretty much) without issue. He sometimes gets up in the middle of the night and needs comforting. This happens more often when he is sick than other times, but there's no rhyme or reason to it.

He had a very high fever a couple of days ago. He had 103.4, but the doctor said it was a 48 hour virus. The fever went away, but the sniffles stayed and gave him ANOTHER ear infection! We're on amoxicillin again! Argh!

He has his first chore! I typed last month that he helped me get Basher's food. THIS month, he gets me the bowl, I help him pour the food in, he watches me lock ("dah!") the food container, and then he walks the food back himself!

First Ice Cream Cone!

We went to "Friday After Five" today. Mason rocked out to the live music, he waved to everyone, and he ate a hot dog roll, fries and his first ice cream cone. He wouldn't hold the cone himself.

Hi!

Mason has been saying a perfectly pronounced, loud "Hi!" for anyone who passed by the past week. Before that, it was more like, "eye!" or a breathey, quick "hi!" to the masses. I realized yesterday that it is my voice and my "Hi!" I hear coming out of his little mouth. It's a sing-song-ey and very enthusiastic. Yay for Mason Parrot!

Little Gym Fun

Can I tell you how proud I am of Mason today? I am still beaming about it two hours later.

We went to the Little Gym for our morning class today. He is usually very clingy and needs to be held during the warm-up. But today he didn't ask to be picked up when we were doing the walking, jumping and running exercises on the mat. He didn't get upset when we were separated while playing with the parachute. He put balls and bells away without hesitation (usually the confusion of all the kids makes him reluctant to do those things until the kids have cleared out). He forward rolled, hung from the bar, walked the balance beam, jumped and played with so much enthusiasm. He told Miss Sue when it was time to get the bubbles out. And he was excited about getting stamps (he got them on his hands, his tummy and his feet) and he asked me to get one. It was SO much fun.
