We had a temporary emergency yesterday! Basher was outside sunning herself while we were inside around 10am. At 10:24, I checked on her, and she had broken out of her collar!
We posted this flyer in the mailbox kiosks around Will's parents' development. We also handed them to people during our frantic search. We (me, Will, and his parents) walked, drove and shouted for her until 2:45. At about noon, there were 2 Basher sightings (one phone call, and one man who told Will's dad that she walked with him for a little while. Hee... funny now). So we knew she was somewhere in this development, and not on the nearby highway.
We were at our wits' end when we went back to the house. And ten minutes later, the phone rang. She was at someone's house two or three miles away! Around noon, she walked up to him and sat for him, so he knew she was trained. He and his wife took her and fed her corn flakes and chicken. (I didn't even eat yesterday because of the worry... and she's getting treats!) They called Animal Control, but soon after saw a posting of our lost dog on his homeowners' association website. He called us, and we went to get her!
We brought her back, washed the woods off her, picked a bunch of ticks off of her, and then she slept a LOT. What an a-hole! Hah.
Trip update: Tomorrow morning we drive to FL!
Here's a guest entry from Miss Basher. Today is our 1-year anniversary with her!
Here she is then:
And now:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Mommy. Not sure if you realize it but I have been with you for exactly one year now! Yeah, it’s true. One year ago you and Will came to my old home (which was quite loud by the way) and got me. I had been there for about a month and from what they told me, I was in kind of bad shape. I had scrapes all over me and my fur was stripped off in some places. I didn’t notice it all that much but I must have looked funny, not like my sexy self that I am now. Anyway, that probably all happened when I lived at my other old house. I was outside a lot there and it wasn’t that fun for me. Even today, I still shiver a lot when it’s cold out. You and Will laugh at me then and then hold me a make me warm. Thanks for that!
Well, the last year has been pretty cool. I really like my yard and my couch and my big bed (although, you and Will seem to take up a lot of room on the bed and push me around sometimes). I REALLY like the toys you get me like the bones I eat up so quick, and the rawhide chews and, oh… and the treats are great! I like the T-Bonz, and the Pupparonis and all the others. If possible, can we stop with the stuff you make me do before giving me the treats? Just give them to me, ok? I mean, how many times do I have to shake hands or sit and stay or lay down or the worst, bark? Barking is really kind of dumb. I hear other dogs do it and it really is silly. Please stop making me do it. I feel stupid doing it and get embarrassed, especially in front of Will.
But getting back, the last year has been a lot of fun. Aside from the fun at the house and the beach, the great walks around the neighborhood and hanging with my friend Cassidy, you took me on some trips. They have been a lot of fun. Remember when we went to Jake and Kellie’s? I had never seen a pool and when I ran in the yard, I fell right in! Oh boy, that was a doosie! And… I got to go see the other dog in North Carolina for my first Xmas. That was fun, even when I get a little sick in the car coming home.
I hope you have liked the last year as much as I have. I think I’ve been a pretty good addition. I got the idea on making outside pretty good, although I really don’t want to do it on the leash. Just let me go in the yard, ok? And, I know I stare a lot when you guys eat dinner but I don’t beg really. I know Will hates that so much so I try not to do it. But really, wouldn’t you rather eat Pasta Putanesca than the Iams I have to? Can you really blame me for staring when you make that? Also, sorry about chewing the cushions when you guys aren’t home. But I just forget that I’m not supposed to until you get home. Then I am very ashamed. And sorry about chewing so many harnesses up. I just see them when they are on me and forget that I shouldn’t. I haven’t done it in a long time though. Anyway, I like snuggling with you guys and playing ball and giving kisses. I hope you like them too.
One thing I have been meaning to mention to you, can you stop giving me the medicine stuff that you put on my shoulders? I hate it! I know you and Will think it’s so funny when I race around and try to get it off me. You just laugh and laugh. But it really sucks! Oh, and no more breath strips either. I mean, I make snarl face and sneeze a lot. Doesn’t that give you the idea that I don’t like that either? Just stop with it, please!
That’s about it. Thanks for getting me from the loud place a year ago. Thanks for giving me my little crate and the big bed at night (just remember to move over a bit for me, tell Will too). And I’m glad I’m your puppy.
Love,
Bashy

I haven't updated the pup's photo album in a while there are 2 new pages here. They're the ones at the top.
Big head pup:

I hope y'all had a Happy Chanukah and a Merry Christmas!
Sorry about the small hiatus. I was tired from the triathlon. Or something.
Basher was sick last week. On Tuesday - 9/28 - night, she was up every hour on the hour to go out and have "mud butt". On Wednesday, she wouldn't wag her tail. At first, I thought it was broken. THEN I realized that her butt HURT, and wagging or sitting properly made it worse. I had no idea a dog could contain their wag! I thought it was involuntary. Here is the sad dog last Wednesday...

On Thursday, she was still sick, so Friday Will took her to the vet. The vet gave her tummy medicine and told Will she is FAT. He asked if we ever read the instructions on the food. There are instructions on dog food? Who knew?!? Turns out she was getting up to 8 cups of food a day instead of TWO. That's right, two. Oops. So we went right to the proper amount, and after a ravenous weekend, she has settled into her new portions.
Also, the tail began to wag a little bit on Friday and then we had the full on wag back in action on Saturday. Whew!
