At Mommy's Office

This is Mason at my office. We have been in NY since Friday. It's been such a great whirlwind! We've seen so many friends, the weather's been nice and cool, Mason's seen lots of dogs and birds.

Weird Bathroom

We watched Saturday's 19 run Yankee game at a bar called Martells. It was a fun time, the bartenders were nice, the Yanks won... the womens' bathroom in this place had two toilets and no partition AND toilet paper on only one side! So if you go in with your friend to pee, she may have to reach across you for paper! A man built that room, I know it.

When Will and I were waiting for the train after that long-ass game, there were a LOT of drunk people in Penn Station. This guy was using the garbage can to 1. hold himself up and 2. hold his puke. What a multi tasker!

Yanks In It Again

I have some issues with the current ALCS series. Mostly my issues are about how angry those Boston players and management are. They all need anger management! Plus they could use a public speaking coach. PLUS they all need a whole lot of grooming. What are they, HIPPIES?!?

My dad emailed me last night about the series. Here's his take on it...

Er-

At first, I was against the playoffs. I mean why not have the AL and NL teams w/ the best win/loss averages play a World Series? I thought it was simply a way to sell more beer, hot dogs and TV time. But these past couple of games have been fantastic. I'm sitting at the edge of the couch and hardly using the remote for three hours!

Now, I see it as the best of the best. It's more fun to watch than the entire season. And the Series haven't even started. Tim McCarver needs a gag. He must have talked about Kurt Shilling's ankle for half the game and then talked about it the next day!! Where the heck is Phil Risutto? The first time I heard them mention the Scooter, I expected Phil.

The Yankees look so sharp in their uniforms. Who the heck is dressing the Reds? George Costanza? It doesn't seem that two of them guys have the same uniform. I wouldn't be surprised if next year there is a reality show Queer Eye for the Boston Reds Guy. They all need haircuts, shaves, batting helmets.....do they even bathe??

Well I can relax tonight. Today is a travel day. Thank you for your time!

Love, Daddy David

Memorial Day Weekend!

Happy 3-day weekend! It's Fleet Week here in New York! In 1998, my sister and I went to check out the ships parked in the Hudson. We took tours and flirted with the cute sailor boyz. It was a really fun time. I remember being so amazed at the USS John F. Kennedy. It's an aircraft carrier, and SO big...

More than 5,000 sailors call the carrier home. As a self-contained city, Kennedy has the same amenities as any U.S. city with a comparable population. It has a daily newspaper, radio and television stations, fire department, library, hospital, two general stores, a barbershop and a post office - with its own zip code.
I wonder how long before a Starbucks opens on it.

This is the first Memorial Day Weekend that we are staying home. We live near the beach now, so we are going to enjoy our beach this time around. Yay! I love the sound of that phrase... "Our Beach".

If you can make it there...

Here is a list of public restrooms in New York City. I've already added a few. It's important to know where to go when you have to!

New York not your city? There are also guides for Boston, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, Paris, San Francisco, Vancouver and Washington, DC!

Roadhouse the Fightsical

If you live in or near NYC, buy tickets to see Roadhouse NOW. (Full title: Road House: The Stage Version Of The Cinema Classic That Starred Patrick Swayze, Except This One Stars Taimak From The 80’s Cult Classic “The Last Dragon” Wearing A Blonde Mullet Wig.) That was the funniest live show I've seen in forever. It's playing in a small theater in the West Village, the Barrow Street Theatre. It's based on Roadhouse, the ridiculous Patrick Swayze movie. Someone on IMDB said it was the Greatest Bad Movie EVER. Hee.

The guy playing Dalton (Swayze) is a hot black man with a blonde mullet wig. He even does the gratutitous butt flash, a la Swayze in Dirty Dancing (and Roadhouse?). Here's a good review from about.com. Seriously, go see this. It was awesome. And then shake the cast's hands on your way to get a drink at Boxers!

Birthday dinner in New York

Happy belated birthday, Will! Last night we went out to dinner for Will's birthday. First we went to Belly, a wine/sake bar, for a drink. It was cozy and romantic there. We each had a glass of wine ($4 for any glass happy hour!!!) and yummy wasabi shrimp chips. For dinner we went to 71 Clinton Fresh Food. The menu was small, eclectic and delicious!

The birthday celebration will continue/finish up on Friday night when we go to an off-off Broadway play. We're going to see the "fightsical" Roadhouse! It should be funny, as was the original Patrick Swayze movie, without even trying to be!

Mickey Mini!

On Friday, on my way into work, I saw a Mini Cooper with Mickey ears! I ran over to take a picture, and the man driving handed me a chocolate. It said "Magic Happens". It must have been a thank you promotion by Disney. Well, thank YOU, Disney, for making me smile and then for giving me chocolate!

long, great weekend

Hopefully, this is our last "living in NY" weekend. I hope to have good news about a closing this week today! I have loved our 3 months here in NY, but I want to be in our house!

Each day of the weekend contained a nap. THAT is an indicator of a good weekend! I got home from work on Friday and napped. Then we had AWESOME sushi at Ota-Ya. It was so fresh! Then we met friends at Phebe's. It was a fun night.

Saturday we got out of the city. We drove up the Palisades to Bear Mountain State Park. I wanted to see the leaves changing color. I did! I also saw a couple of bears (yay!) and other rescued animals that they have in a zoo there. (The bear pictures didn't come out... One was fishing and eating, the other napped.) There was a small fair at the Park. We got some cinnamon roasted almonds. Mmmm. Here are some pictures from our day. My favorite is this one of the Bear Mountain Bridge.

We went home and napped and then watched the Yankees lose at Dorian's. Boo hoo. Then Tim and Melissa came over and we hung out, ate junk food and watched movies. Late night movie watching... good times! That was the first time we've had company in that apartment in the 2 months we've lived there! Hah!

Sunday was a lazy day. We only left the apartment to move the car and get food. I like days like that!

mermaid!

I saw a mermaid last night! I went to the Coral Room with a couple of friends and there she was swimming in the tank behind the bar! She swims around with LIVE FISH in there! She was really nice. She is friends with the girls I was with, and she came out and talked to us. She told us the bar wants to get an eel and an octopus for the tank! Here's a photo album of all my pictures! (Sorry for the blurriness... phone pictures, you know. But I think it makes them look neat and arty!)
