He Identified a Color!!

Last night in the bath, I was using the blue stackable cup to play. Mason likes when I hold it up and the water sprinkles out on him from the holes. Then I spill the remainder on him and he laughs hysterically. (The blue cup is the biggest and has the most holes - four.) He told me "Boo" when I held up the blue cup! Tonight he reinforced that color ID by telling me the same thing!

Mason knows his first color! How many do you know?!?

Circle

When we were in the FL house, I drew circles on the moving boxes for Mason and he'd say "Yu-Yu" (a soft "u", like in "butt"). I'm sure he was IDing his first shape. Now he will point to circles and tell us they are circles. In addition, any time we draw anything, a line, a triangle, a square, he tells us it's a yu-yu. So a yu-yu is a circle or a drawing. Yay! More words!!!!

Some New and Some Old Words

Here is a new video of Mason saying new and old words.

He has so many new sounds, which is really exciting. He's always telling us when he sees things he recognizes (which is often). Sometimes my clogged brain forgets the translation of a specific "Masonese" word. He uses several words for a lot of things. Like in that video, he said, "Ggggggggggg-yo" for motorcycle. He also uses that for Grandma and music. He clucks his tongue in the roof of his mouth for egg, leg, cake and one other thing. He says "Ba" for a TON of things.

Yesterday I took him for a walk around the block. A woman was outside doing gardening. She was my age-ish. He kept pointing to her saying, "dow, dow, dow, dow" until I told him he was right, she IS a girl. Then he waved like a madman at her. He's pretty good at determining "dows" from "bees". I'd say he has a 75% success rate.

He also has started to tell us when he has taken a #2. He points at his butt and says "dee-dee". But if we don't acknowledge it or we don't see him do it right away, he forgets and then he has a stinky diaper until one of us smells him.

New "Words"

Mason has a couple of new syllables, "bee bee bee bee" and "mee mee mee mee". I think he's experimenting with new sounds, and not using them as words yet. At least I hope that's the case. Otherwise I'm a bad Mommy for not knowing what my son is talking about.

He says "Ba" for like, 15 different things. I always know (in context) what the "Ba" is. Truck, Bus, Plane... You know, "Ba"! But this "bee bee bee bee" just seems fun for him to say, and not yet directed at anything specific. I'm trying to direct it toward saying "Baby", which he currently says as "Ba".

Here is a video of him saying words, names, and "bee bee bee bee".

Vowels

I recite vowels for Mason, and he says his version back. I say "aaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeee" (yes, like the Fonz), and he says, "a-yay". I say "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee", he shouts, "eee". I say "i" drawn out. He points to his eye. Then we do "o" and "u" ( but I say "oooooooooooooooooo", like in "loot" instead of "u", like "fury"). The "o" is my favorite sound, but the "i" has it.

Sports!

Mason can identify different sports! When ESPN is on, he will point out basketball ("Ba"), baseball ("B-Ba"), football (highpitched shriek laugh), and hockey (not sure, but it's a word that sounds like hockey!).

Communication!

This weekend, I teared up during Mason's breakfast! He pointed at some strawberry tops (from already eaten strawberries) and said, "Baaaaaaa". I thought maybe he said "Berry", but wasn't 100% sure. I offered him yogurt, he wouldn't take it. Will offered him blueberries, he wouldn't take them. Will rinsed off a few more strawberries and he ate them all! I was so misty eyed! He told us what he wanted!

Yesterday during lunch, I said, "Who stinks like cheese?" I pointed at him and said, "That guy!". (He had wiped his macaroni and cheese hands in his hair.)  He parroted me and said, "Tha Ga". Will was sitting there, and the three of us were cracking up, saying, "That Guy!" over and over again! (Soon after, That Guy threw up his lunch and had to have a bath. So That Guy's hair stank no more!)

Six Words!

Mason says "Ba" for a lot of words. Basher, truck, bus, shoes, book, bath, mononucleosis (heh). He says "A-Ba" for Olivia, grandma, grandpa, Elmo. He now says 5 words and 1 distinct name that are not "Ba" or "A-Ba". They are:

  • "la la" for daddy
  • "ba ba" for mommy
  • "a-szha" for socks
  • "baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" for bye (sounds like a Southern drawl
  • "ma ma" for mirror
  • "Ne ne ne" for Adriana

Yay for the smartie!
