Hurricane Frances ripped through Florida this past weekend. Well, more like crawled, at about 7mph. It was as big as the state of Texas. It's still HUGE...
My family lives an hour south of Melbourne, where the brunt of the storm hit. They stayed at a friend's down the street because there were storm shutters on the friend's house. They got through it without incident. Yes, they were without electricity from Sunday to Tuesday, yes they have to throw out a bunch of stuff that defrosted, yes, they lost a lot of sleep because it was hot as balls the whole time. But they're ok, and their home is ok. So yay!
They weren't in the path of Charley, who did some serious damage a couple of weeks ago. Ivan is coming next. He is currently in the Caribbean. It's the strongest storm to hit the Caribbean in 10 years. It's already done damage in Grenada, Barbados, St. Lucia and St. Vincent. It looks like it's headed up to the Gulf Coast, so maybe they'll have a break or a while. (Kim and John, you be careful!)
I'm continually thinking good thoughts for you Florida people!
